Description: Nonviolent
Crisis
Intervention is a safe, nonharmful behavior management system designed
to help human service workers provide for the best possible care and
welfare of assultive, disruptive or out-of-control persons even during
the most violent moments.
In this training you will
learn to:
- Identify useful nonverbal techniques in the
prevention of acting out behavior
- Develop verbal techniques to be implemented
when de-escalation of verbal acting out is necessary
- Understand physical principles of personal
safety techniques to avoid client and staff injury if behavior
escalates to a
physical level
- Provide for the best care and welfare for
individuals in your facility
- Understand and develop team intervention
strategies and techniques
- Demonstrate physical control and restraint
techniques to be implemented when physical intervention is necessary
- Apply the material covered to "real life"
situations
- Build therapeutic postvention techniques to be
implemented after acting out behavior has occurred, to aid the
individual in coping with crisis
Competencies: Participants will:
- Recognize and respond appropriately to crisis
development behavior levels.
- Use Nonviolent Physical Crisis Intervention
techniques.
- Use a team approach to crisis intervention,
which best promotes the care, welfare, safety and security for all
staff and
students.
- Receive a completion card as documentation of
successful participation.

Audience: The
CPI Model for Nonviolent
Crisis Intervention
is a team approach. The techniques and strategies require a minimum of
2
individuals for implementation. Therefore, buildings will need to
have more
than one person trained to use the CPI model, Single participants
may attend
if they will be joining others in their building who are already
trained.
