Nature
of Autism Series
This four day
series provides information on strategies to meet the needs of students
with autism in the regular educational environment:
- Introduction
to Autism Spectrum Disorder: October 3, 2007
- This all day workshop identifies the
features of Autism, strengths and challenges of academics, social
interactions and communication/language issues. Specific
strategies and essential elements to programming in the general
education environment will also be identified. Planning time is
provided for participants to identify and create tools that will
benefit their students.
- Managing
Challenging Behavior: November 1, 2007
- This all day workshop provides
information on causes of challenging behaviors specific to autism and
strategies for managing behavior. Planning time is provided for
participants to identify and create tools that will benefit their
students. Social Skills and
Communication: December 6, 2007
- Students with Autism are often in need of
social intervention but their social needs are not always
recognized. This all day workshop explores a variety of
strategies including developing peer relationships and bullying.
Planning time is provided for participants to discuss and create
strategies for increasing social and communication skills.
- Sensory
Needs: January 15, 2008
- This all day workshop provides
information on sensory processing and strategies to help students with
autism self-regulate. Planning time is provided for participants
to identify and create tools that will benefit their students
Supporting
Students with High Functioning Autism/Asperger Syndrome:
November 13,
2007
This all day
workshop identifies the features of Asperger Syndrome/HFA, strengths
and challenges of academics, social interactions and
communication/language issues. Specific strategies and essential
elements to programming in the general education environment will also
be identified. Planning time is provided for teams to identify
and create tools that will benefit their students.
Onsite
follow-up is available to all participants.
Target
audience: special educators, regular educators, paraprofessionals,
personal care aides, therapists.
Trainings will
be held at Central Intermediate Unit, West Decatur with registration
beginning at 8:30 and the training beginning at 9:00AM and ending at
3:30PM.
